Driving a truck myself I would say no. And this would be a futile deterrent to drive consumers to begin buying smaller more fuel efficient vehicles. Which this has been proven over the course of the last few years as gas prices have tripled in a record amount of time and SUV and truck sales are not slowing down but increasing. But I am sure the government would love the extra revenue.

Why would we want extra government taxation? The majority of what you pay at the gas pump isn't the price of gasoline itself, it's Federal and State taxes. You're already forking out big sums of tax money per gallon.

You think because an SUV driver, or someone who drives a truck, has a bigger vehicle they should pay more? Ok. Let's run this one by you.......

You house is bigger than my house, so you use more energy. So I'm going to propose that your electric bill, or home heating fuel bill cost more than mine. Is that fair? Of course not!

We have enough government interference in our lives. Why do people insist on having more?

No, I don't support that kind of a tax. We should be free to purchase whatever vehicle we want to, and shouldn't have to pay a penalty for exercising that right to choose. The government is going to end up with more money, anyway, because they tax each gallon of gas up to 41 cents, and lower mileage leads to higher taxes from the gas purchases.

Conversely, I don't think that the tax on the fuel efficient hybrids should exist, either, for the same reasons.

No. The high fuel demands of those vehicles require the user to automatically pay a higher tax, than say, someone in a Corolla.

On the flip side, instead of punishing SUV owners, why not provide substantial savings to people in the form of huge tax credits to purchase low environmental impact cars, they hybrids, etc.

I believe our Government gets more than its fair share of my taxes. I do not drive a SUV or a truck, but many people who do do so out of need to have one. We do not need any more taxes of any kind imposed on us by a Government who cannot be trusted with the money it gets right now. I say lower taxes and force a balanced budget to make our Representatives more responsible with the money they do have.

No more than owners of those types of vehicles already pay in personal property taxes. I drive a Corolla, so my opinion on this isn't biased. I also don't think they should tax tobacco. They are freedoms that Americans have fought for throughout the centuries, and shouldn't cost people more money just to have the right to partake.

I don't think they should, instead I think that they should use newer technology to make SUV's and trucks more fuel efficient. They can do it with sedans, they should apply that technology to SUV's and trucks so a tax won't be necessary. Also if we adopt new technology to make fuel alternatives so the gas won't be as expensive that'd help, and also if we use more environment friendly type gases/fuels like biodiesel

Only if they add taxes to businesses who light their signs all night. .. and those high-dollar, energy-hogging big screens at sporting events.... and the guys who waste so much energy on anything involving the entertainment industry ... illuminated golf courses .... night baseball games .... Times Square light shows...

If the goal is to tax those who are supposedly using resources frivolously then it is obvious that wasting all that electricity for silly things is equally taxable.

No. That only hurts the people.

Give tax breaks to companies that make fuel-efficient cars.

I don't support involuntary taxes, especially those taxes that are designed to punish law-abiding citizens for their bad behavior as though they're little children.
