Never mentioned if it was an automatic or a manual. If it's an automatic you may be having some transmission issues. when you step on the gas does the motor rev like it is in neutral? Or does it just lug down like it has a load but no power? a little more information would help in a proper diagnostic. Thanks.

could be plugged up fuel filter. when the check engine light comes on it should be storing an error code in the vehicles computer. a service garage with the correct scan tool for your Saturn should be able to diagnose the problem from those error codes.

take it to a garage and have them hook up a reader to it to see what the problem is, a lot of vehicles have what they call a limp in mode in the ecm. what it does the ecm has a fault code in it and it will change the program to a default setting so you wont damage the engine. that is why it runs bad

You could have some bad gas in it.. Or someone could have put something in your tank.. That is why it starts running good after a few minutes.. The sediment is moving around in the tank.. It could also use a good old fashion tune up.

you need to get the car scanned to see what made the check engine light come on .the transmission is probably not taking off in 1st gear.

Maybe the air filter or fuel filter.---But I'm no mechanic so I'd suggest taking it in to be serviced.
