I actually think polygamy should be allowed. I see no reason not to except for insurance payout reasons.

In Christianity polygamy is allowed, same with Islam, and a number of other major religions. It's only the US's puritan beliefs that somehow seem to justify only allowing 2 people to marry.

I say if you're an adult, and know what you're doing, and everything is consensual you should be allowed to marry more than one person.

It already happens in a lot of places, and the practice is growing, the only stupid thing is that these people that engage in polyamory aren't allowed to formalize it legally, which is a terrible injustice to a lot of people.

If you want to see something interesting on the topic check your local listings for a show called "Big Love", it's about a normal polygamous family just trying to get on with life.

Also, just because your views may not be in sync with it, doesn't mean the law can't be. The law should do what's in the best interest of the people, so same-sex marriage, and eventually polygamy should be allowed by law.

It's not a change in religious law, religions are still free to do as they please, it's just a change in a country's law, to better protect the rights of it's citizens.

Same-sex marriage protects the rights of same-sex couples, and polygamous marriage would protect the rights of the people in said marriage, so they wouldn't just get booted out with no legal standing.

I am in the minority of Gays in that I am not a big fan of Gay marriage. I am not against it I just did not think it was worth four more years of Bush
But yes. Why not polygamy?
It is not something I would want to do I can barely stand one let alone multiple significant others but just because I would not live that way does not mean others should not

I don't see how it's a separate issue (as others have suggested). People should be allowed to be in any adult, consenting relationship they wish, straight, gay, polyamorous, polygamous, etc. The current idea of american marriage is out-dated. And, for the record, it's not "just the mormons" who practice polygamy, it's something that's been practiced by many cultures in many different regions.

I actually agree. Both should be legal. The government should not decide who can enter into a shared life together or the number of people allowed to dedicate themselves to each other. Polygamy, in and of itself, is not inherently evil. Simply the most prominent cases of it are fraught with abuse and horrors...these horrors however are not due to the polygamy...they're due to the other beliefs held by the people who just happen to also be engaging in polygamy. I think the government has absolutely no business mucking about in marriage at all. If consenting adults want to share their lives and have it formally recognized then who is anyone to say they can't? Doesn't matter to me who or how many of them there are so long as they're all of age and capable of giving informed consent. "Cuz I live by the rule, that everything's cool, just as long as nobody gets hurt"

I don't know...why not polygamy?

Honestly, it doesn't affect me any so it's really none of my business. Although...something tells me I really should have been a divorce lawyer. (j/k)
No, seriously.
I really don't care.
I we're all citizens and as long as the polygamy only involves consenting adults (which in most plural marriages this is NOT the case, sadly).

The ONLY problem I have is with the FLDS church which has a long standing practice of marrying off under age girls.

Marriage is, legally, a contract between two parties, entitling each to certain rights and benefits. Having multiple signatories makes most of them null and void, and therefore the marriage does not work.

Then why not sex with goats? Or furniture? ;););););)

The "issue" with gay marriage is redefining the word Marriage to be between TWO PEOPLE (as it is) of the SAME SEX (this is the part that is being debated)!

Polygamy is trying to (also) change the word TWO people...

Why do heterosexuals even bother getting married considering their divorce rate well over 50%, plus the high propensity for illegitimate children is quite a boon, you hypocrites?

Exactly! If you live by "If it feels good, Do it", then why stop at just gay marriage? Why not incest, polygamy, and bestiality?

Because Polygamy is shared by only by Mormons
and ex presidents. Gay marriage is still taboo because
congressmen are far more comfortable leading a seedy double life.
