Advertise it in the local papers where you live........It's convenient to the parents and to you..........Local papers are best for this.............Also putting out flyers in the neighborhood might be a good idea.............CAT

Depends on the business...if it is a small, home-based day care, I'd stick with personal "guerilla" tactics...I would stay away from most "mass advertising" vehicles like TV, newspapers, radio...and I would NEVER post a flyer on a telephone pole! Instead, I'd do things like providing information to local realtors (that they can give people that are new to the area and request day care info), posting a flyer at your church (if you attend one) and letting the pastor know you care for children, and don't overlook the importance of the Yellow Pages...this is where most people start looking for day care. ...and if you can tie an online yellow pages ad to a Web site, even better!
If it was a large local (or national) day care facility, I'd still stay away from most traditional forms of mass advertising and instead, focus on more targeted methods such as mailing to surrounding neighborhoods. The phone book would a must...with an ad large enough to stand out. The Internet is also a must.
Most importantly, when it comes to a day care facility, publicity and word of mouth are WAY more effective than advertising! Take advantage of every possible opportunity for media attention (e.g., invite media to events like grand opening) and offer current customers a reward for referrals to encourage positive word of mouth.
A final thought...I found my son's first day care provider through the pastor at church, the next two (both preschools) from the yellow pages!

Send it to local schools, liaise with local groups (muns & tots), girl guides, scouts etc - all to contact mums and dads/grandparents who need this service.
