Some people don't think it is. It involves a ton of hard work, and i think if golf and nascar are unquestionably a sport, cheerleading deserves some better recognition. Its hard work, and you use every single muscle in your body and are so sore after practices and stuff.

But here I'm not talking cheering at games.. I'm talking about competitions. Why are there so many cheerleader haters out there anyways...

NO

Neither is synchronised swimming or rhythmic gymnastics

Using the argument about using muscles would make sex a sport.

Using the argument about being sore would make street violence a sport

Well people say that anything that is competitive is a sport as my math teacher says. But what I really think it is a competitive game where it involves strategy, hard work, and physical activity.

Unless you are talking about cheerleading competitions, no. During sporting events, cheerleading is just a spectacle.

If gymnastics is considered a sport then cheerleading is most definately a sport. Cheerleading uses the same concepts as gymnastics except it takes everyone working together...which I think makes it more difficult than gymnastics. So I am going to say...yes...cheerleading is a sport.

No. How do you keep score?

Athletic ability is needed, but it seems like it would be more fun to actually participate in a sport than cheer someone else on.

It is considered a sport; you're part of a team and you compete against others.

Most definitely! It requires more training (gymnastics, strength) and as much or more practice as any of the other "sports" !! AND a heck of a lot more GUTS!! Watch one of them get tossed 20 or so feet in the air and then get caught by an ankle! And the one catching and then holding the other cheerleader up with one hand??? Whoa!

Okay you people who think cheerleading isn't a sport you guys are the jokes. Cheerleading is most definitely a sport. We do way more than you think. You guys think we're stupid, slutty blonde bimbos and we're not! It's just what you first think of when you think of cheerleaders because movies and TV Shows portray us as but half of us aren't! Because first of all I'm not blonde or a bimbo nor slutty or stupid! Honestly to all you people out there I would love to see you guys to a round off backhand spring back tuck! Or let me see you do a full or a layout! Ya you can't. And for all you guys who think male cheerleaders are gay guess again! Because a lot of them aren't gay but some of them are which is never a bad thing. They are way more stronger than you guys! They lift up girls above their heads using their two hands or sometimes even one! (And they can get more girls than you!) Cheer is the worlds most dangerous sport. There has been more cheer injuries than Basketball or Football. I would also love to see you guys come to our 3 hour practices, trust me you'll be sweating buckets! So if you don't think it's a sport try to go to some cheerleading practices. IT'S INTENSE!

P.S. We do compete against people at competitions and the scores are kept to determine who the winner is!
