Because most of them make so much $$$ they can afford to bribe and take other measures to cover it up. Money talks!! We were just having this conversation today at my father's house and we all agree that green covers tracks. It's just a fact. Or power. Cops get away with whatever they want, just like government officials, like that guy that Bush pardoned for turning in that CIA agent which is a crime punishable by hanging. If it were any one of us, we'd be hanged..no questions asked. Money and power, that's the bottom line.

White collar crime is usually a betrayal of trust done by someone who has the skill to cover their tracks. That's why internal audits and external audits are so important. Often the person commiting fraud has the authority, or the know how, to override or circumvent the internal controls that are in place to prevent the fraud. Just accepting the fact that one of their own is in fact a theif can be difficult for alot companies.

Because it's not obvious like a drug dealer who sells crack on the street. A guy who wears a shirt and tie and probably went through college has a public misconception of being less prone to be a criminal, since he can make money. When the truth is greed is in all of us, not just the obviously poor. But the question is, why isn't it obvious? Media fixation on drug dealers and street crimes? Maybe people think only the desperate will take money?

I think part of it has to do with the type of person commiting the crime - someone who is working in an office (at a high enough level to have access to that sort of information/funds) is more than likely a FAR more intelligent person than your average blue collar thug.
Robbery and Assault don't exactly require you to have a lot of brains - but sucessfully pulling off an embezzlement scam does ;);)

its like a mechanic. a mechanic know every component of the engine. where is should be, what holds it in there, why it's there and how every other piece interacts with it. the same principal can be applied here. take your white collar criminal. he or she knows what time everything is workin, the busy points the quiet times, basically buisness is that engine and they can tamper with it because they know what they are doin. They are clever and would consider every angle before executing thire plan. they dont act on impulse.

Because these types of crimes are usually carried out by trusting executives. Unlike a person who robs a bank, these people gradually and meticulously commit their crimes.

Denial, especially if you respect the person involved.
Businessman Savy, they know how to cover their tracks.
It's my own logical explanation. It makes sense, doesn't it!
