I have 16 platy fry that are 1 1/2 months old and approx. 1/2" long. When can they be introduced with larger fish in the main tank? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

They should be big enough for the main tank
If you don't have any real plants, I would put them in because it gives the fry hiding places from all the other fish

Hope that helps

Good luck

I usually keep the fry separated for 4 to 6 weeks. I think your fry should be large enough now. The mother may still try to eat them but she will stop when she sees that they fry don't fit in her mouth. Basically if the babies fit in mom's mouth they may end up being lunch.

You shouldn't even have to worry about separating them from the main tank. I have raised both a platy and a molly fry in the same tank as my other fish. They have survival instincts, and they can eat leftover food and outswim adult fish until they're too big to be eaten.

Usually when they double in size, shouldn't take more than a month or so. I would not recommend putting them in a tank with a crab. Two out of the three of mine got eaten.

Big enough that they won't fit in the adults mouths
