Tips in all restaurants are split between all the workers. The sad part is the amount is not divided equally. It is done as per seniority and position.

You can split the tip however you both decide.
OR
You can give the bus boy a certain percentage of your tips.

You have not mentioned what the restaurant policy is for this. So I am assuming that there is no policy concerning this matter.

Also, I am assuming that the bus boy is being paid an hourly wage. I am also assuming that you are getting a set hourIy wage plus your tips.

If there is not restaurant policy in place I would think that what you pay the bus boy would be up to you.........Even at assuming that.... because the bus boy is keeping your tables clean and getting it done quickly......you will be able to wait on more tables thus make more in tips! It would be appropriate for you to share some of your tip money with the bus boy!

Maybe you should ask the management what the policy is. If there is not policy in place then suggest that the management implement one!

However..........If you are the owner/manager/and server of the restaurant...Shame on you.....You should definitly pay the bus boy extra money one way or another!

Yes, definitely. But it won't come from the customers. The waitstaff "has" (unspoken rule usually) to tip out the busboy, dishwasher, bartender, etc... at the end of the night. So you get a wage AND every server giving you cash. If you're good you'll get promoted to a server and then the tables are turned and YOU have to tip out. To be quite honest, the busboy I worked with made more per hour on average than the servers.

If you work hard and do a really good job, most of the waiters and waitresses in fancy restaurants appreciate a good busboy and will divide their tips up with you. Good luck.

yes, either
a) all of the waiter's tips are pooled and they are divided with certain percentage going to each waiter, a certain percentage going to busboys and the hostess
or
b) each wait person is required to give a certain percentage of their tips to the boyboy. either way, the tips are $$big in any nice place in LA!
