Well i completely agree, muscle cars are nice looking but the evo is my absolute fave. i think it would blow it away as well but people of the older age also give impressions to there children that are probably favoring the muscle cars because they don't like the noisy ricers and new cars. That's just my thought though

Wow, I can't believe I just read that. Your little Evo is a quick car, as is the WRX, but against true muscle there is no competition. You have to remember that muscle cars did not stop getting made in the 70's. Modern muscle, while not the same as the good old classics, is still stomping rice left and right. Have you ever heard of the Corvette Z06? Viper of any style? Mustang GT500? Those cars, among others, will eat your little Evo alive. Go ahead and tune your car for the competition. Each one of the cars I named can be brought to over 1000 HP and a 0-60 time of 4.2 to under 3 seconds with just TWO modifications (Z06 already has a 0-60 time of 3.7 STOCK). You may be able to out maneuver a '68 Charger monster, but not the Corvette or the Viper. You can have fun with an Evo for sure (especially beating up other tuners), don't get me wrong, but it won't stand up to the raw power of good 'ol American Muscle.

True power!!! The all American Muscle cars were the beginning of an era. Get behind the wheel of a 71 Chevelle, 68 Camaro, or a 69 Fastback Mustang. The pure power of that engine roaring without the fancy computers and the nitrous is something that only a true car fan can appreciate. Sure the handling and gas mileage are so much better, but there is nothing like em......and this is coming from a woman.

It is a compleatly differant situation. As much as you dont like the big, heavy muscle cars of days gone by, that does not mean that alot of people cant liek them.
Myself? I am an import guy through and through but I still get chills when a Charger, Camaro, or any other of the old muscle cars idles past with a nice lumpy idle.
As far as turning corners. Alot of people don't live near a mountain road, the majority of the roads in this country are nice and straight and a handling advantage is moot in a straight line.
If you are tlaking stock for stock then you probably could beat a stock muscle car, on stock narow tires. But the current fad in muscle cars, the G-Machine is serisouly a hoot. Moderne suspension, Modern engines/engine management. super chargers, turbo chargers. the sky is the limit on what can be done if you are willing to take your time and build it with the right parts.
But I doubt anything I say will convince you that muscle cars can be cool so just believe what you want to believe, but they are car guys the same as us, so why not just get along with them?

I never had a muscle car, too poor. In the 70's though, it was great to get a bit more performance out of a stock car. Sort of doing it yourself. I think the same can be said today looking at modified cars. You didn't build a muscle car for being practical or fuel efficient. Still if you like the EVO, that's fine, and if some like muscle cars, that's ok.

so i guess the fact that the 64 Pontiac gto handled nearly as well as the 64 Ferrari gto doesn't mean anything? as far as comparing a 60's or 70's era muscle car to a modern day evo/wrx/whatever, these are apples and oranges. the vintage cars are about 800lbs heavier, and several generations behind in engine management. and given similar allowed modifications, i could make the vintage cars equal in handling, and would leave the evo in the dust in a straight line. also i know a vintage six cylinder falcon that would leave your evo gasping for air in the straight line, and with a couple of inexpensive suspension upgrades would show the evo its taillights when the road gets twisty as well.

I am 36 and grew up with 6 brothers and there is nothing like a great true muscle car. Most vehicles now are ugly and practically impossible to maintain yourself. I drive a 2003, Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 and I do like it and it handles much better than my 68 GTO Rag-top but. I must repeat BUT there is nothing like my little 326 driving through the country.

Unless your into muscle cars you'll never understand. Just as I don't see why ricers think a good sounding car is a Honda with a fart muffler. I'd take my 65 Nova over an Evo any day.

because they like the great old american muscle car.... they are great machines. they think the more cylinders you have the better off you are.... but you maybe right about the Evo thing...... EVO's are lighter, and more manuverable then a muscle car. mainly because of the front wheel drive cars.....the rear wheel drives tend to wanna spin more causing loss of grip, causing the car to spin out of control.....
then again i really dunno.....I am just wasting time......

Because they are! There hasn't been anything built like them since we became so gas and environmentally conscious. My first car was a 1972 Chevelle. I would do anything to have that car back now that I have the money to fix it up. I guess the biggest thing about them is more power. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
