If you can get to the p-trap under the shower, take it apart and clean it out. If not, a shop vac probably won't work as most shower drains have a strainer that will prevent it from going down in the pipe. So it's gonna take some time and patience. Let the shower base flood to almost over flowing or fill the tub, witchever the case may be. Get a rubber plunger and work the plunger up and down very quickly several times and then pull it up off the drain on the upstroke. That will bring some of the gravel up everytime. Catch the gravel before it goes back down. Do this several times and eventually it will get enough gravel out to where the plunger will push the rest through. The gravel being pushed through will not hurt the sewer or septic system unless you have a macerator pump on the system.

Assuming your taking about a bathtub, Take off the silver coloured disk that should be screwed on about 6" under the tap. This an sort of an emergency drane incase your tub is overfilling. Stick a plunger on there and go to town, if it's not doing the job then plunge the regular drain and do this back and forth. This should move the rocks and **** around enough to clear the drain. If this doesn't work, throw a full bottle of liquid draino in there, wait about a half hour and do the plunger thing again. Just did this to my tub.

If you have a crawl space you will have a trap under the house.
If not.
Use a vacuum (Shop Vac is best cause of the water) and duck tape a drinking straw to the smallest attachment and suck them out. They may not get sucked up into the straw but they should at least get stuck by the vacuum to the end of the straw so you can pick them out one at a time.

Can you get a shop vac hose in there far enough? (Also known as a wet/dry vac)
If not, there's a tool (don't know the name) - it's like a rubber water balloon; you attach it to the end of a garden hose, insert it in the pipe and turn on the water - the "balloon" won't let the water through until enough pressure builds up to force the water through the "balloon" - usually enough pressure to push pretty much anything through.
Beyond that, 1-800-PLUMBER.
