I get a little irriated when people try to fix my life for me. If I am venting I honestly do not want to hear your solution to all my problems - esp. if I did not ask for it. Is this as annoying to other people as it is to me? Why do we always think that we have to be the genius behind the remedy in other peoples affairs? I just feel that listening is a lost art. We would not worry so much about what others think of us . . . if we knew how seldom they do! Some of my best pals are the quiet ones - the world should take note. I am listening . . .

I am not talking specifically about the answers board here . . . I am talking about one on one conversations. Thanks for assuming you know what you are talking about.

I never realized how annoying that was until I became a mother. Suddenly everyone was telling me how to take care and raise my son, and none of them ever had children. I'm sure you heard the saying that opinions are like *******, everyone has one and they all stink. People just love to give their 2 cents. Isn't that why this site is so popular??

This is one of my biggest pet peeves - especially since I am the guy who EVERYONE I know turns to for advice. That's the biggest reason why I'm here (in Y!A) in the first place - to help solve the world's problems...
And squash a few Trolls at the same time ;);)
Unfortunately, venting here on Y!A is probably the worst thing you can do if you DON'T want a response - both Trolls and point-seekers will hunt you down, as well as a few misguided souls who actually think you are looking for advice ;););)

Well, I agree to a point. I mean, there's a place and time for everything, and sometimes, it's like, when you really DO need advice, everyone just wants to top each other's stories and experiences without actually helping yours.
I don't mind when my friends rant to me. I feel helpful and all fuzzy inside when they talk about their feelings with me. But, I do not like it when certain friends consistantly rant about the same old things over and over again.
There's a Native tradition that, every couple of weeks, women would get together and all listen to each other's problems, then, one by one, they would give their best advice and then move on to the next woman's problem. After 3 weeks, if a woman didn't solve her problem with the advice given, she had to stop talking about it.

If you like listening to people tell stories of how they did idiotic things to screw up their life and havent got a clue, and they constantly complain then go for it.After a while I tell them, your life is screwed up because of your circumstances in part, but mostly because of your stupid decisions.People ask questions on here because they KNOW they need help.some people just want someone to tell them what they WANT to hear. They do not have to take the advice and if you have asked no questions then you can complain. If you have asked questions on here what did you expect? It annoys me more than people giving advice for someone to drone on and on about their problems but won't do what they need to do to fix them yet they think,' if I keep trying to put my butt which is on fire out with that bucket of gas, I can't lose, it will HAVE to stop burning!' If they do not want advice, the local school for the deaf is the best place for them to speak their complaints verbally without getting a response. If sympathy is what they need, sure we ALL make mistakes, but sooner or later there comes a point of where it's a case of either they cannot learn or they WILL NOT learn.

BRAVO!!!!! It's not just not listening, it's actually hearing what the other person is saying. Most people are too busy trying to think about what they want to say next to actually hear what is being said!!!!!

If you don't want to listen, then tell them so. If it irrates you so much than tell them, or just tell them to just listen. Your a big girl, and you can speak your mind. It doesn't really bother me so much b/c I know what to take seriously, and what to just smile and nod at!
