Think about it - if you are truly famous and well-off, able to work in your chosen profession - would you want to spend endless hours watching ill-trained and minimally talented amateurs?

Probably not. So the program finds moderately well-known people they can afford. The judges think it will boost their careers and the program doesn't spend a fortune on the salaries.
