Note that towns right near the foothills (Golden is a popular choice) only have views of the immediate foothills, which block the mountains. Depending on exactly where you're located, it's easy to lose an hour of sunshine, as the sun goes behind the foothill.
Being 5-10 miles to the East on a hill gets you a better view. And raises the price of your house by maybe 20%, maybe more. You're not the only one who wants that.
There aren't many streams here, it's basically a desert. Most are located in parkland. A streamside location is even rarer than a mountain view, although they do exist.
If you're going to be working here it's important to live close to work. Traffic is bad.
You'll get much better information from a real estate agent, of course.

Actually, Denver is pretty far from the foothills. Do you specifically want to live near Denver? Your commute to Denver could be quite long. You could check with real estate agents for good ideas. If you just want to live in Colorado, near a big city, but actualy in the foothills, consider Colordo Springs. See wesites below for some ideas. The last one has a paragraph listing towns in the foothills. Good luck with your move..you will LOVE Colorado.

Golden, Conifer, Evergreen, Bailey, Morrison is cool. Aspen Park all are in the foothills and 30-60 min drive from denver.
But if you live in the foothills you can't see the mountains

Just inside the foothills is Bailey, Conifer. Green Mountain is right up on the foothills. Just a tad north, you have Nederland just inside the foothills (Just west of Boulder). Golden is right on the foothills but a little large (for my liking). Aspen Park is really nice as well. Mapquest those and see if you like those locations. They are real nice and just inside the foothills. You'll love it, there.
Good luck!

There's also Boulder at the base of the foothills but it's pretty expensive so you'd have to have a pretty good paying job.
