Yes, it's a joke, but you have to remember that it's really nothing more than an exhibition game. It's unfortunate that fans are so often wrong in their voting, and that they dare to use a stupid all-star game to determine home field advantage for the World Series, but it's still just an exhibition. And, the point of having fans vote is to allow them to do their best to vote in the players they want to see - there's nothing that says it has to be the best players.

Baseball still has the best all-star game of any major sport, but I do agree that the voting is enough to drive you crazy.

Since they determined that the winning team gets home field advantage in the World Series, it is no longer just an exhibition game (I have to say that this decision was stupid)

Instead of voting the way the fans do now, I think they should limit the time frame which you can vote. MLB should designate a 5 game homestand for each team. During those 5 games is the only time you can vote for the players. National League stadiums would only vote for NL teams and the same with the AL.

If people are truly interested in voting for the All-star team, they will have to go to the game and vote in person. This may also help some teams like the Marlins to boost their attendance for at least 5 games.
