Your third eye is the psychic center of your spiritual body. It is the portal between the physical and spiritual world allowing you to see things/events/scenes/visions that you would not likely experience through your physical eyes.
Everyone has a third eye and all are capable of using and being in tune with it. All it takes is either practice or an enchanted token to open and use it.

The third eye idea is a corruption of the concept of Chakras, one of which is above your eyes, centered above your brows.
There are seven major ones, and large numbers of smaller ones (another concept lost on the West, who like cartoon versions of things bought in "Occult and spiritualism of the Week" books.
The one you refer to is a spiritual organ (like the others) that has a correlation to the pituitary but is not the same, being part of your spiritual being, not physical.
It is also called the Brow Chakra. It has other names, but you can find more on your own.
We all have it, except for those who have seriously damaged their essential being, probably from fooling around with things they aren't willing to put the time and effort into understanding.

ever wonder how you see in your dreams when your eyes are closed? thats when you're using your third eye. And if you ever experience those times when you see something but not with your physical eyes - like a spirit or energy field around a living thing.

Everyone has it. It is just a matter of whether or not it is developed or utilized.
A simple exercise:
Sit or lay in a comfortable position
concentrate on the space between your two eyes
feel the space
then imagine an eye and you are trying to open it
You may feel a slight pressure
Continue to focus on the opening
Give gratitude.

when you have the gift of sight you can see what is to come. You know how to control it and when and how to use it. The third eye is your insight and your inner thoughts. which can and may come true.
