it depend upon Ur need. p3 and 128MB ram is more then enough to run JDK if Ur going to work out in JSP ,Servlet and using server u need some high con fig . if u use eclipse tool to work with java 256 RAM is enough if u use JDeveloper and web sphere studio developer 512 RAM must be used if not u will face lot of problem. if u use Net Bean IDE 256 RAM. advance java mean ? so Ur going to connect with back end database server ? what kind of database server u r going to use ? OK OK 256 RAM is sufficient but 512 RAM is more sufficient

Java installs and runs on a whole bunch of different systems, and by itself doesn't need a whole lot of CPU power or RAM or anything like that.

You'll probably want to use the Eclipse environment for writing, which can be a bit of a memory hog. I'd recommend you have at least 256mb above and beyond what you need for the operating system.
