thismorning at about 4am I got woken up by horrible stomach cramps/pains... they started a few inches above my belly button to an inch or so below.. they kind of felt like intestianl cramps, or gas pains. They were irregular, sometimes every 5 mins or 2 mins and lasting for about a minute each time, sometimes 30 seconds. I hadnt had much sleep beforehand so I went back to sleep at around 6am, which by that time they were starting to ease up.. woke up about 4 hours later and they are basically gone. Im 41 weeks today, and getting the gel done tomorrow to help things along, but Im just wondering what that was, false labour or what? and does it means labour is pretty close?

Could be pretty close...Buuut it was prob just braxton hicks, when it is real labor it will continue. Its normal for that to happen...it has happened to me as well! Don't worry your SOO close!

When your uterus contracts it starts at the top and contracts down and also has a slight twisting action. from where you said it started it may be some contractions but it wasn't what we call true labor. True labor will not go away after sleeping. If you're going to have the gel done get some sleep b/c this may be the trigger your body needs! Also try having sex if you're able to or go for a walk tomorrow.

I went through the same thing the whole week before I went into labor. I didn't get any sleep, because I was up all night with contractions. They were painful, but they were never consistent and very erratic.
I finally ended up having my cervix scraped, and went into labor that night. Since I had gotten no sleep for a week, they gave me a shot to help me rest between contractions. By morning my labor had stopped and they had to induce me. I was 13 days past my due date.
It is not that it is false labor, but it is your body preparing for labor. Each pain you get is your body progressing, effacing and dialating. Rest and have sex (make sure to leave the semen in because it too will help things progress), it will be soon!

That sounds like braxton hicks which is false labor... Sorry...
The gel should help you along... Real labor is in a very consistent rythmic pattern and don't stop. Im only 33 weeks and can't wait untill this girl comes out! I can't imagine how you feel!!

This is what is considered false labor and since you are 41 weeks along, you are close. You could go into labor at any time. This could be your body gearing up, or it could fizzle out for another couple days.
Best wishes for your delivery!

Please go to the hospital and get checked. You are 41 weeks and this is a very dangerous time for the baby so please play it safe rather than sorry. I don't mean to scare you but I have a friend who a month ago lost her child because the placenta degenerated. If your baby is as active as ever than no worries but better safe than sorry.

Practice contractions; they usually don't mean anything.
