Divorces can be simple and done by folks themselves w/ packets you can get at the courthouse. The problem you may face is that in order to get one, you have to serve the person w/ suit papers. That is, they have to get a copy of them so you need to know where he lives and you need to provide an address for him to mail you a copy back of his answer. You can get a P.O. Box in another area if you want or most battered women's shelters will have lawyers that will let you send your legal mail to them to keep him from finding you. Also most battered women's shelters have lists of women lawyers who will do your divorce for free. If not, call legal aid. And hooray to you for getting out of a marriage to someone who is abusive!! My mom was in a marriage w/ a guy who beat the crap out of her for years and she is so so much happier now w/out that jerk around. Congratulations and godspeed.

You can act as your own attorney but i'd advise against it because of the domestic violence issues. You should go to a local attorney and just get legal advice( you dont have to hire them), they can tell you more than I can.

You dont need an attorney... not even if you were on trial for first degree murder. All an attorney does is advise you on your legal rights, he knows the law and the proper terminology... and how to file paperwork and court processes...
All you need to do is file the paper work yourself... do research and figure it out.

first of all most attorneys have free consultations talk to them to find out what will need to be done then go to an office supply store and buy a divorce kit and file it with the city courthouse.
Good luck

this is your problem, a simple divorce where both parties agree and are cordial to each other no problem, other things such as your issue require more legal paper work, try to call your local court house to see if they have a number to a non profit that will help you in your legal action

go to an office supply store and get a package (do it yourself). that's what I did. Saved a lot of money. I don't know how you can do this without divulging your location, but best of luck to you.

From what very little you've revealed here, I'm sorry, but you need a lawyer.
