It's an American holiday started when starving pilgrims were helped to survive by the American Indians. The pilgrims were introduced to a new food source they knew nothing about: Turkey.

both Canada and the USA have a thanksgiving day, though on different dates. it celebrates and gives thanks for a good harvest in the fall. it has little or nothing to do with religion.

also, there are a lot of stories about "the first thanksgiving" - pilgrims and turkey and native americans etc, none of which probably ever really happened. the holiday was not started until quite some time after America was it's own nation.

What is it that made you ask this question?, even though
its pretty far off. It is 4th of July!. So did you ask your question to show how much You love Thanksgiving, or your Love For Jews?
Edit -this holiday wasnt established by any government,
because there wasn't a government aound for hundreds of years, It is a holiday, started by people though word of Mouth.
EDIT-This holiday is not Christian based for everyone??//, There is finally a holiday, that all religions can celebrate together! great!, This holiday will unite the whole world then!
It was started by word of mouth, and it continues. Thanksgiving, is only clelebrated, in the united states...

Thanksgiving is an American Holiday only. So it doesn't matter if your Jewish or Catholic or whatever religion you happen to be. If your an American you celebrate Thanksgiving. Being Jewish is not a nationality it is a religion.
