I need to go buy something for my xbox and I will be maybe 20 minutes late, what's a good excuse as to why I am going to be late, or why I was late. And this isn't 20 minutes late from the start of my shift, it's a 15 minute break i'll be late for

Why lie. Tell your boss with plenty of time that you want to do some errands but this errand may make you 20 minutes late. He/she does not need to know the exact nature of the errand. If you are in good standing with your boss and you are a reliable person you will be given permision. Alternatively offer to work the extra time at the end of the shift. For example if your shift ended at 5:00 but you where late 20 minutes then work until 5:20.

get some eyedrops
or if you're a good actor, cry

tell boss that your close relative/dog/friend passed away
just found out from a phone call... and just cry cry cry (or pretend)
and act like you are trying to talk but you can't because you're crying too hard

it worked for me - you might even get the rest of the day off :)

IF YOUR BOSS IS A HEARTLESS MAN/WOMAN AND YOU KNOW HE/SHE WON'T GIVE FOR THAT.....

if you're a girl...say you got your period and had to run to the store to prevent leaking all over (..ew)

OH!!! You could walk in with a tissue up your nose and be like MY NOSE WONT STOP BLEEDING

or you could rip your clothes even put some purple /green eyeshadow all over your face and be like I just got beat up...lol or you got bitten by a dog and just rip the back of your pants

or you could lie to the police station that someone ran away with your wallet in your back pocket (i think it is illegal..but oh well :P)/// and tell your boss you've been mugged for 20 mins

OK i'll stop before it gets way too out of hand

good luck!

This might seem like a strange thing to do. Why dont you do your personal business during personal time and not your companies.

Other then that say you blew a tire. But if I was your manager I would say oh that sucks I like cars let me see your tire im interested in this stuff. Yep fired if you were lying to me about that.

Why don't you try telling the boss the truth and see if he'll give you the twenty minutes? If he won't, go after work and get it.
