First, you should probably focus on the world inside your book. More specifically, think about your character's personality. Would she do something like that? Don't think about what "everybody" does these days. Just think about her. Is she shy? Is she outgoing? Does she make rash decisions without thinking about the consequences? Does she make out with him because she feels outside pressure-- and feels like she has to do that to keep his interest? Deal with all of her inner conflicts, and she'll be more fascinating, too.
Also, think about the male character, and what he would do and why.
If the scene feels out-of-place in the book as a whole, it's not worth including it-- just because YOU think it should be included, that doesn't mean your characters agree.
Also, don't forget that your characters have to deal with the consequences of whatever they do. Besides, if they just make out and everyone is happy, where's the conflict?

I hope these ramblings help a little. Good luck.

And your question is will this fly with an editor or publisher? The answer is a resounding NO. Not as a Young Adult book. An editor would have to take your book and present it to an acquisition committee for selection. And unless the acquisition sees a major market for your book, they will reject it. Look up the definition of "statuary rape".

It sounds to me like you need to re-evaluate what a relationship is for a 15 year old girl. The reality may be that this is taking place all over the country every day of the week, but an editor is going to tell you it isnt a healthy image to portray as a role model for kids.

Trust me - the book will not sell that way. It may be something you are doing for your own purposes to share with friends or whatever, but no major publisher is buying such a book. Sorry. Pax - C

It really depends on how you present it. If it seems totally added -on just for the sex, then it will not work. Everyone will know that that part is there just for the sake of it being there.

But you're gonna have a hard time selling your book or novel when you have a young girl with their tops off.

not have sex and NOT take off her top. You don't want to contribute to the delinquency of a minor, do you?

It's what kids do today and that's what's important, keeping it real.
