It will depend on the class of the show (schoooling vs. class A) and the breed of horse being shown. At an open show meaning all breeds are welcome, in hand classes (grooming or model classes)are called showman or horsemanship and you are judged more than the horse (its like equitation on the ground) your horse must be clean, but your ability to care for him and show his is what is beig judged. it is judged on your horse's clenlines, apearance and conformation. If the class is called halter, your horse alone is being judged, not you and it may be breed specific, and your horse should wear a show halter designed for its breed and performance, if it is only a local open show a leather halter and lead will suffice. If it is a model, showmanship or in hand class, your horse shold have a bridle, not a halter, but no saddles wraps or boots on his legs. He should also have his mane and tail braided. You should wear the outfit that corresponds to your dicipline, western halter clothes (dark pants, long sleeves, a vest and hat) or hunter clothes, breeches, boots, a blouse and jacket and a hat for showmanship classes you must dress like a horseman in riding gear . For halter, you do not need riding clothes, just long dark pants, long sleeves and a vest, no hat. The prize list (program) will be specific if it is a halter or showmanship class. For road hack, you will be asked to extend and amplify gaits, it is more of a gaited class than a hunter class, saddleseat clothes or a shadbelly, breeches, boots and a Top hat are acceptable. Show hack is open to saddleseat, dressage and huntseat riders and horses. You will be asked for normal, collected and extended gaits, you and your horse will be judged together on fluid moton, transitions and gaits. For hunters, wear formal hunt clothes, boots, breeches, jacket and helmet, with hunt tack, for dressage, dressage saddle, double bridle, and white pad, wear white breeches, a shadbely and top hat. You may ride in a shadbelly with a saddleseat cut back as well, as you may wear saddleseat clothes. Pleasure hack is not for gaited horses, you may wear hunter or dressage clothes and you and your horse wilol be judged on movement, transitions and your ability to work together. Good luck at your show, and remember if you have a question about ttack or apparel, a rated show will post all rules and requirements in the prizelist and rule book, at a localk show you may ask the secretary, ringmaster or gate steward for help and they will hep you.

For a grooming class you need to make him look as pretty as possible. Paint his hooves, brush and pull his mane, and maybe even braid it, depending on how big the show is. You don't put his tack on. You wear nice clothes. I wear khaki pants, clean paddock boots, a nice short sleeved shirt, and maybe put my hair up. Just look clean, well prepared, and pretty. Same for the horse. You will show him in a halter.
For hacks, its all on the horse. Make him look nice like you would for the grooming class. I don't know what a road hack is, but for a pleasure hack, he needs to look safe. He will be judged on how nicely he moves, and if he looks like he could trot around all day. It's like a hunter class. You need to wear a helmet, breeches, boots and a jacket & show shirt. He needs to look tired, but still able to work, and very safe.
Hope I Helped!!

well i am guessing that you are going to be riding english so you need to braid his mane. first of all you need to clip his muzzle, ears, eyebrows, and bridle path. Then you need to give him a bathh and make sure that you wash his tail good. while his mane is wet you can comb it out and braide it. when you get to the show you should put hoof black on his hooves and spray show sheen on his body. your tack needs to be cleans as do you. your clothes need to be clean and wrinkle free. you should have breeches, boots, a collared shirt, a jacket, and a helmet(usually black). gloves are also a good idea but not necessary. if you are riding him you need to use a bridle...you never ride in a halter. you even do english showmanship with a bridle. hope this helps.

Road Hack- You will be asked for a walk, trot, road trot (extended trot) canter, and hand gallop.
Show Hack- You will be asked for: Collected Walk, Walk and Extended Walk, Collected Trot, Trot and Extended Trot, Collected Canter, Canter and Extended Canter.
Have fun and I hope this helps.
