I recently bought a 3 gallon fish bowl for one of my bettas. When I took the fish bowl out of the box, I saw that it came with an undergravel filter. So I was wondering if an undergravel is ok for a 3 gallon fish bowl. Would it be too powerful?
I put my betta in the fishbowl a couple days ago without the filter in it anyway. ...He seems to be happy with all the space! =]

An undergravel filter is a good option for a small tank such as yours. I would suggest you use the filter and just keep the air supply at a fairly low level if it seems to disturb your fish. Using the filter has MAJOR advantages over no filter at all. By using the filter you will provide a much more stable and much healthier environment for your fish.

Congrats on the new tank and the upgrade for your finny buddy!

when it comes to maintenence a tank will do best with a filter and undergravel filter is always the easiest filter to have. the gravel has large surface area for bacteria growth and little maintenence is required as long as u siphon the gravel when u change water. but betta is a fish that prefer still water so its up to u if u want to have the filter. personally my betta tank has no filter. i believe a happy fish is a healthy fish. i only change the water every few days and have some live plants inside. and to play safe i dnt feed alot. this way my betta is always active =) cheeros!

Use the filter. You will be better off in the long run. It came with the tank for a reason. Bettas don't have to have a filter, but your fish will be healthier with one.

Not a problem. Much better than no filter at all.
