Charlotte in and of itself does not have mountains - it does have rolling hills. The Blue Ridge Mountains are located to the west - about 2 hours and you'll be in the middle (i.e. Asheville or Boone). Its also about 3-4 hours from the beach.

Charlotte is a good place to raise a family. It has a fair amount of stuff to do but mostly focused on sports although the arts and culture scene is developing. Its cost of living is relatively cheap compared to other cities (Minneapolis, Portland, Denver)

RE:
Does Charlotte, NC have mountains? I'm thinking of moving there with my job, and want to know what to expect

Charlotte itself is a nice town with lots of traffic, cool places to eat and somewhat central in terms of location. It has a cosmopolitan feel and people there are transplants from other regions, therefore they are open-minded. For mountains, you drive just about 1 hour north (or less) and end up in Asheville, which is this charming little town with lots of trails, mountains, scenic beauty, indie music scene, artsy feel and spectacular locales. I'd say make the move, I lived there for 2 years and hated to leave.

NC is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains, but the east side is flat as a board. Where you are going there are probably rolling hills ,if I remember right.
