Have an '02 Avalanche with a 5.3 V8 and out of the blue this is what it started doing. Driving along in town no problem and out of the blue it just shuts off at a red light. I turn the key over, let the fuel pump prime and it starts right up but won't stay running, you have to pump the gas and keep it at about 1600 rpm to keep it running and it sounds like it's not getting gas? I don't think it's the fuel pump though because after it starts doing this if you drive around for a little bit it will quit and is fine until you park and shut it off. I parked, shut it off and got out and went to hit the door lock button and the truck is dead. No power. I open the door and there is nothing, no ding, no lights, nothing. Then all of a sudden everything kicks back on. I turn it back over and it's fine, starts right up and stays running, check engine lights on, I test it and it says P0174 System Too Lean (Bank 2) whatever that means? Then it runs fine for a couple weeks and does it all over again?

You have a bad ground somewhere. It sounds like a main ground. Some ground wires are located at the base of the seats where the seats bolt to the floor. Either way , it sounds like a loose ground wire.

First thing I'd do is chase down ALL the ground wires (at least three under the hood and a few under the dash) and make sure they're all tight and not corroded. Check the battery, alternator and starter connections too. Check battery voltage and charging voltage. I'd search automotive forums for information related to your problem. Seek out competent local mechanics and see if anyone has seen this problem before.
I'M willing to bet that it's EITHER a bad connection somewhere, OR a failing ECU; but it may take a while to find it.
Good luck!

it sounds like you should try replacing the fuel filter. If there isn't enough fuel getting to the cylinders it will throw off your fuel to air ratio and give you indications like that, as well as lower the idle speed and cause the vehicle to stall out when at lower RPM's

Loose, dirty, or corroded battery terminals.

Use a 5/16" box end wrench and remove the battery cables (GM style)
Clean with baking soda and wire brush.
Rinse well, reinstall.
