I usually read. Get lost in someone else's world.
Maybe you should try getting out of the house. Find a new activity. Perhaps something bold, like rock climbing or sky diving. Or perhaps something milder like a book club or a country or ballroom dance class. Maybe take a class at the local community college. Learn how to play the guitar, or practice if you already know how. Go sing karaoke or maybe try bowling. Maybe you live someplace where you can go fishing or hiking.
Maybe you should think about getting a dog. Might I recommend Australian Sheppards. Wonderfully loyal and compassionate creatures.
I hope you find some happiness. Take care.

I feel down and alone a lot of times myself since my husband died. I'm 58, and I lost my sole mate.
I think that's one reason I started coming to this sight. there is a variety of people of all ages with a lot of the same problems I have and I feel like I'm not alone. we all have problems, some of which are the same as the ones I have.
we can help each other in some way or another, even if it's just listening to them.

If you're asking this in the math/physics area, I'd suggest joining a math chatroom somewhere! The internet is full of people to chat with. I'm sorry you're sad and lonely. People telling you this is the wrong forum need to have a little compassion. And 50 is NOT old! For crying out loud.

Open your physics book, no really. You need to start a hobby
I started years ago painting by numbers. Now I don't need the
numbers to paint. visit your local hobby store and start with
the simple ones, and as you get better, work up to the more
difficult ones.
My wife learned to make greeting cards at Michell's craft
store. a friend of hers, is now teaching the class in her home,
and they sell them at craft shows several times a year. Many
people are buying the home crafted cards, because they are
More personalized and special than the expensive store
bought cards. That takes an initional investment to get set up
though, and you can make them for any occasion.
My first choice is a lot less expensive, to me and fun. :-})

I start by sparking controversy on Yahoo! Answers yippee!
but seriously, I go to a public place and just start a conversation with a stranger about the news, weather, terrible smell on the subway, etc. and have a few laughs
feel free to IM me at fortisferox@gmail.com

What you are doing is fine. This game will lift your spirits. I find it uplifting and entertaining. Don't feel bad, I'm 30 and don't know a lot of things too.

Its a symptom of being old---I am so sorry---but familyis the best solution at that age.
Old people have so much time in their hands yet so little to do--Dont you have a job though?

I talk to my dog. He's a real good listener.
Go out and try something new.....painting, fishing, dancing, you know.... where there are other people who will share the same interests.
