Hi,

1 Yes, because (0,3) is directly above (0,0) and (4,0) is directly to the right of (0,0). Those segments from a right angle.

2 No, because while (3,3) is directly above (3.0), the other point is not directly left or right of either point, so no right angle is formed.

3. Use the Pythagorean theorem, a² + b² = c², Filling in the numbers, the equation becomes:

12² + 2² = c²
144 + 4 = c²
148 = c²
c = √(148) = 12.166 miles

4 The midpoint is found by Xmid = (x1 + x2)/2.
So xmid = 500000 + 720000)/2 = $610,000
