I believe Gore had the most votes, but guess what, IT DOESNT MATTER! cause the electoral college decides in the end and they decided on bush (democracy?)

It is all explained in the US Constitution, the one the Liberals criticize when it says something different than they want and the same one they are so proud of when they can interpret it to say what they want it to say.
I understand that Al Gore did, in fact, get more popular votes than George Bush, but Bush got more electoral votes because of the winner take all rule for the votes of a state. Better explained is that not everyone voted. Al Gore got a larger majority in the very populist states which he won, than Bush's majority in the states he won. So Gore got more actual votes from people, but Bush got more state votes, so he won.
The real big flap was Al Gore's attempt to "steal" the election in FL, which would given him the majority of electoral votes. He tried to keep from counting the military absentee ballots, but wanted to count and recount all the counties with high black population. They recounted a number of times and Bush still won every time. Gore wanted a bunch of union members to come in and recount the ballots and we all know that unions are 1) solid Democrats and 2) completely corrupt.

Luvthebrits, please don't accuse all Floridaians of that. It was the Dade County people, mostly retirees from up north that couldn't read the ballets. (No offense northerners, it just that's where most of them were from)

I was living in Florida in 2000. Basically, Gore contested that all votes had not been counted. After numerous recounts and legal challenges and rulings decidings over hanging chads and what voter cards would and would not be recounted Bush had 700+ more votes than Al Gore. In the end, Al's legal team challenged the results and the Florida Supreme Court ruled there had been enough recounts and that there would not be another one, which in turn basically declared Bush the winning of Florida's electorial votes.

Florida was too close to call. After several court mandated recounts, George W. won by like 500 votes. Extremely close. In the overall popular vote, Gore won. Our voting system isn't set up that way though. Each states holds elections and appoints representatives to the electoral college where the ACTUAL vote for the Presidency occurs. Bush won more electoral votes, so he won the Presidency.

Basicly, they counted the votes and Bush won.

Then Gore sued , saying that florida didn't count the votes right.

And then Gore sued to have just the heavily Democratic dominated counties in Florida recounted.

( that was gore's mistake, he should have sued to have the whole state recounted )

Bush then sued in the USSC to stop the partial recount that was ordered in just the heavily democrat counties.

The USSC ruled for Bush.

Recounts by every major media organization afterwards, using different standards on what counts as a vote, all had the same results.

Bush won the election in every single case.

What is never mentioned, is that Bush had to sue 11 Democratic dominated counties in Fla, to get the military absentee ballots counted.

The gore campaign had sent out a handbook, telling gores fla campaign workers how to prevent military absentee ballots from being counted.

never before in American history, has a presidential candiate, purposely tried to stop the military absentee votes from being counted.

In every case before, everyone has always sided with the soldiers to let thier votes count, even if it meant stretching the law a little.

In this case, they tried to stop legally cast military absentee ballots.

I assume you are talking about 2000. Gore led the popular vote by abouy 500,000 (not a majority but a plurality). Bush won the majority of electoral votes, which is what counts. FL was very close & was recounted, re-recounted, re-re-recounted... & Bush won FL, albeit by a very slim margin. Democrats have spent the past 6 ½ years screaming that Bush cheated. He did, not. He won honestly.

He did not win because he lost.

After a month or so of bending and twisting the rules, filing lawsuits and disallowing thousands of absentee ballots from the military overseas, he lost.

Thank God

Al Gore tried to steal the election with a lot of phony reasons. Al won the most votes, but lost due to the Electoral College.
