I have a deck that is made out of treated lumber. It is cracked and is exposed to alot of sun. Is there any way to get rid of the cracks or sand the board. It currently has stain on it.

pressure wash it down to where the wood is clean of the existing stain..pretty easy but messy..then rinse it....it is best to let it dry 2 days after this..then just run an electric sander over it..don't have to bear down on it..just to knock the raised grain off.... after this either sweep real good or blow the dust off it with an air compresser or leaf blower...Now you add your finish..I prefer a natural finish, but you can get the products with a stain as well..DO NOT USE THOMPSONS WATERSEAL PRODUCTS..they are a parrafin base and virtually impossible to refinish if you need to at a latter date.the parrifin will not come out....I prefer a product called "cuprinol", me being a painter for 37 years, and I get this from Sherwin Williams Paints...to each thier own here..but a better priced one is better than cheap..an old saying..'If you pay peanuts, you get Monkeys"
