Yes.

All the animals hear it fall... the insects feel the vibration.... and if you think plants are sentient [as I do] then they not only feel it. hear it, but grieve for it.

I have always loved these types of questions. If by "no one" you mean nothing, including animals, etc., then no it doesn't based on the human concept of sound. Its demise would be a soundless passing. However, there is always something capable of hearing in close proximity to a tree. Here is another question for you: You have heard the sound of two hands clapping...what is the sound of one hand clapping?

Yes.....the animals in the forest would be startled & more than likely run for shelter. & as it fell the branches would tear out limbs from another tree standing next to it therefore, the sound of limbs or branches being crunched could be heard probably for miles.

Think of a lamp. If the energy flows throw it, but there is no bulb, does it create light?

No ears to pick up the vibrations of a sound wave is the same thing. The potential is there, but with no receiver, nothing.

Oh, and in case you are wondering, the meaning of life is 42.

It gives off sound waves, but sounds are made in the ear. So if there is a creature near by capable of hearing then yes a sound is produced from the soundwaves, but if not then only soundwaves are produced.

I guess it depends on your definition of sound.

No, it does not.

If no human ears are a there to pick up the vibration in the air, there is no sound. Further if no humans are there to repeat the story of the fact that a sound was created, the story doesn't exist, ergo no sound existed. Either way, no sound.

in elementary school we used to have to sing a song about that "when a tree falls....in the forest....do we hear it...do we care?" but anyways i think that it does make a noise.

The answer is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It will only make a noise if there is something that can hear it. (Like an animal, a tape recorder, etc.) Otherwise it will only cause soundwaves that would soon dissipate.

technically there would be SOMETHING to hear it or feel it fall...humans might not, but the squirrel living in the tree would feel it fall, or the tree next to it would feel the unbearable weight fall upon it..so yes. it does.

It makes air pressure waves, but without an awareness present to interpret them, there is no noise.
