First thing is to get rid of the clutter. Throw away what you can and put the rest in continers and put in garage or closet. Then a quick wipe over furniture and fluff pillows. Spend most time cleaning kitchen and bathroom. Best of all try to relax .... if you are uptight so will your company. There is always just shoving what you can under the sofa and beds. That's why I hate inviting people over because I feel things should be perfect, but you know in the real world it just isn't always possible. Oh, put out fresh flowers and light a few candles - can be very distracting!

music helps make it go faster. Get help... enlist the family or friends if you have any willing. If you have too much stuff.... I have issues with clutter at times... getting a storage shelf for a back room for tools or gadgets or sewing projects, etc... basically making a place for things you don't have a place for... and don;t be afraid to throw away what you don't need or taking a trip to the local salvation army or red cross or good will. It will make space for the stuff you do use and like.
Every once and a while I will go through my closets , and kids and have bags for good will.... I also made a room in the attack for storage... I bought some mettle racks and now I have organized my stuff I will get to again at sometimes... or are my moms or grandmothers and want to keep but are afraid the kids will destroy.
So organization... some shelves... some get rid of... and some music. and some help if you can.
Good luck.

Pick up as much of the mess as you can and throw it in boxes. Then store the boxes in a garage or shed. Dust and vacuum everything and your house will look **** N span. However, if you need anything you have thrown in the boxes, you will need to rummage to find it.

My daughter's way of cleaning up is moving clutter. All clutter goes into a box, and the box goes into the closet. The clutter is put away later (or not!).
