Especially with the FINAL (?) defeat of that lousy so-called "Immigration Bill," some in the "major media" have accused Rush, and others in the "Talk Radio" genre of "running" American politics.

Do you agree? Why/Why not? What sort of influence does he/do they have on American politics?

I hope not. If he and the rest of that group of misfits does then we are all doomed.

Rush and the right wing radio blow hards don't control anything. They CAN, at times, direct discourse somewhat in certain offices. For example, they can 'lead the charge' against their own republicans in office. The democrats aren't going to listen Rush or any of the ditto heads so they hold no water there. Radio can however tell their own reps what the radio listeners are interested in. I guess that could be construed as 'power' in some halls, but in no way could that be considered as 'running america'. Radio hosts had their heyday like a decade ago and were much more dangerous then, but that star has faded considerably. Not to mention that not all of the radio hosts agree with each other, and a lot of people including those in power, don't really LIKE these shows or their hosts. Republican legislators have too many legislators and PACs tugging at their ear to listen to just one anyways. Rush is one voice of many many many many many voices in Washington. You might as well pose the question, "Does the religious right really run Amerca?", or, "Does the NRA really run America?" etc.

No. Limbaugh freely admits to being a Merc who takes whatever positions his sponsors pay him to.

And Don Imus was gone within weeks of turning against Bush when the Walter Reed scandal broke. "Nappy Headed Ho's" was only the excuse. Not the first time Al Sharpton has worked as a hired gun for the Right. He got his start in the 70's as a Union buster.

These guys do however supply the catch phrases and sound bites that politics runs on these day.

They don't run America; However, many people who listen realize what they say makes a lot of sense--those are the people who are changing their votes and communicating with their legislators. Our government after all, is at least partially still "by the people, for the people."

However, I would say the liberal democrats are afraid of the conservative talk shows.

I never realized how afraid they are until I was watching OETA (Public Television) one evening. The democrats were having a televised conference. They made the comment that they had control of most television news. The focus quickly turned to what they could do to get control of talk radio...

IMHO, that pretty well speaks for itself.

He doesn't have the influence that he did in the early 90's. He has shown himself to be disingenous in his personal conduct as compared with the values he preaches.

As a former dittohead, the one valuable thing I learned from listening to him is to take every headline and news story with a grain, and to always look deeper and evaluate the opposing viewpoint before forming your own opinion. The major media and the 6 o'clock news are the worst sources in finding out what's really going on. It is all spun, edited and censored and too much attention is paid to diverting public attention to non-news, like Paris Hilton's jail sentence.

Long Live Rush Limbaugh! All he did was inform people. They decide from there. Wasn't it McCain that didn't want discussion of the bill in the Senate? If you are going to promote a major bill you better make sure you aren't on the side of 'lets ram it down their throats and not have any discussion'.

The only thing Rush Limbaugh runs is a bunch of airheads who can't think for themselves and who have to be spoon fed their beliefs like pablum on a daily basis. Limbaugh is a fraud, a farce, and a hypocrite, which most of America has known for years.

If he really ran the country, President Bush's approval rating would be a lot higher than 29%!

Rush is "The Voice Of The People".
The Democrats must Silence Him. That is the Main Goal of the Democrat Party.

The first thing Communists do when they take over a country, is to SILENCE THE PEOPLE.
Then you only hear the Communists.

Get prepared for 2008, folks.
