I really need a good starter/beginer sewing book that covers the basic wardrobe (all the patterns i can find are costumes..) and preferably comes with some type of pattern that will fit a few different sizes. i just need some recommendations on which ones are better because there are so many.

I own a really good book by Singer about sewing. This book is an informative and instructive book on sewing techniques. It doesn't have any pattern with it. You choose a pattern (like Simplicity or McCall's) of what you want to sew and inside your pattern envelope will be directions on how to sew that particular item. I hope that helps you a little.

Simplicity Patterns has a line called "Sewing Patterns for Dummies"! http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?crit=1030 They have super easy step by step instructions and you can get a simple pattern (costume, home decor or whatever) to make a practice project. They also have "It's so EASY patterns" too, and they really are simple once you understand the terminology. http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=5&type=23&sec=63&startrow=1&selected=Y You can also get a book called "Sewing for Dummies" http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780764568473&itm=1 or the book "Start to Sew" http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?ean=9781589232068&pwb=1&z=y is pretty easy to learn from! I taught my 8 year old niece how to sew without using patterns. It's a great lifetime skill everyone should know! Congratulations on your new ambition!

Look for one that says beginners.

I love how girls do not learn to do this in school any more.
