I want to be able to do well in the 10th grade, and I'm having trouble focusing in class. I don't understand why I do this. I would listen at first, but then I end up thinking about something totally different. I just can't help myself! Please tell me what I should do!!!

Sit in the front row.
Your mind can function better if you have eaten some decent food beforehand.
Caffeine will defeat your purpose if your having it in the morning. It drops from your system and your mind slows down. It also is a diuretic so it is better to drink stuff that hydrates you. Your brain needs the water.
Write down on a piece of paper questions you have while the teacher is giving instruction. (if you have to wait to ask).

Have a great year and I hope you have some classes you really love.

Caffeine helps focus, like a lot of other people told you. Cutting sugar helps too. Also, like every teacher on earth has told me before taking those state tests, get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast.

Try taking notes, even if it's in a subject that you wouldn't normally take notes in. That could help focus your attention because if your objective is to write down what you're listening to, you can't help but listen right!? But don't doodle!!

Also, this may sound a little weird, but ask to go to the bathroom in the middle of class. A little break can do good. I find it a little ridiculous that they don't really have semi-long breaks in school anymore. But if you're getting bored, going to the bathroom and getting away from it all for 3 minutes can help you get back into focus.

Sit in the front row too, there are less distractions and you can see better. AND your teacher will be able to tell right away when you're not paying attention! :P

Don't sit by your friends either. They're just more distractions.

This may also sound silly, but during some free time, write down some things that have been on your mind lately, that you often find yourself thinking about. Like, keep a diary. If you write your thoughts down, it's sort of like...you're letting them go. Writing can really clear your mind of the stresses that you're preoccupied with.

1) Get rid of any and all potential distractions - cell phones, ipods, etc

2) Don't sit near a window

3) Don't sit with friends - or at least not with chatty friends

4) Do what you must to keep your focus on your teacher. Some sort of memory or concentration booster may help, but more than anything it's about willpower. It's not gonna change in a day or in a week, but if you keep at it eventually you'll find it easier to focus in class

OK, just think if you do not stay focus you could be a sore loser. Without a high school education, you will have a major set back in life. Without decent grades...it will be hard to get scholarships or accepted into good schools. Did you know that they are requiring a diploma just to clean bathrooms now??? Good Luck...Stay focused hun.....

Try taking notes in class. Writing down what the teacher says can help you remain focused and doing something active with help you maintain your attention.

forget all the chewing gum and coffee, but eat plenty of food before school, focus, try to find classwork interesting, and challenge yourself into getting good grades....it worked for me, I only had A`s and B`s....also have some snacks if you get hungry at school, scientists have proved that students do better when they are not hungry!!

yeah because school sucks and its useless. okay well imagine you're failing the class, never graduating, and never finding a job, so then u live on the street, begging for money. NOW you'll want to listen. =) i know it sucks, but sometimes you have to. and pretend to take notes teachers like that.

the most important thing is to have a good breakfast. also if you study the material you might be more attentive since you will understand it more. you could ask questions and just try to keep yourself a part of the conversations and lectures.

Try getting involved by asking and answering questions. Think of ways the issues apply to you and others.
