factor out x

x (3x^2 - 5x - 2)

two numbers that multiply to -6 and add to -5

the two numbers are -6 and 1

since the leading coefficient is not 1. Replace the middle term witht the two numbers

x (3x^2 - 6x + 1x - 2)

factor by groups
x { (3x^2 - 6x) + (1x - 2)}

factor out GCF

x { 3x(x - 2) + 1(x - 2)}

factor out x - 2
x (x - 2) (3x + 1)
