Actually what you are seeking is a network switch. Before household router makers integrated 4 LAN ports into their low end routers, you used a network switch. If you have more than 4 wired LAN devices, you still need network switch.
You plug the router LAN port into the network switch along with all other wired LAN devices.
Be careful with some brands of network switches as they mandate one port be used for uplink (means connection to a router); others have 2 ports on one end where one is the uplink and the other is not BUT only one of this pair can be used. It is marked on the switch but often overlooked,
Common network switches can accomodate 4, 8, 16, or 24 ports.
You should get a 10/100 switch as you do not need to run at 1000 Mbps.
You do not need a managed switch nor does the switch need to provide QoS packet forwarding. These features add to the cost and for you this added cost is not needed.
Household grade network 10/100 network switches are made by Linksys, Netgear, D Link, Belkin and these are fairly decent and fairly inexpensive. Swiches made by 3 Com are a little more costly but tend to be better quality and many feel the added cost is worth it.

you should buy an ethernet hub (about $40 for a four port hub) plug your internet router into the hub and all computers into the hub there will be no need for any configuring of the router as its already set up

You are not using the device correctly. If it is in fact a router, you should have a WAN port (connection to the Internet) and LAN ports (local connections or the computers in your home.)
Connect your cable modem/dsl modem to the WAN port. Ths should then activate your other ports for sharing out of the box. Depending on your provider, you may need to adjust settings in the router and your computers such as DHCP.

Yes there is. It's called a dumb hub. They're cheap at Office Depot, Office Max, Best buy...you name it. It's just a small lil hub that will split the connection.
