People always ask me, "Well why didn't you just spell it the normal way?!" And then they get all pissy about it. My daughters' names are Kiahna [key-ah-na] and Kierstyn [keer-stinn]. Do you think they are "wierd" names or spelled differently?

They are not only pretty but unique and very special because you chose them just for your little angels.

I think for Kiahna you could spell Kianna, but I think it looks cuter the way you spelled Kierstyn. It's still the same name, who cares!

People tend to think of people who use kr8tyve (that is, creative) spellings as undereducated or trashy. Your daugthers' names aren't bad, but you have to understand that some people really do go overboard and that gives these unique names a bad rep that they don't deserve.

A highschool friend of mine named her second daugther Ihmmaleigh, not because she loved the name but because she thought she had to be more orignal with her second daughter because everyone loved how unique her first daughter (Kamberly)'s name was. I mean, its' her decision, but it just makes her daughter's life that much harder ... after all, when the poor girl says "My Name's Emily", she's immediately has to follow with "that's spelled i-h-m-m-". Kr8tyve spellings can make it hard on people who have to read them as well. There was a girl in a few of my anatomy classes whose name was pronounced ken-yeah-tra. It was spelled Kinetic. As in Kinetic Energy.

That said, your daughters names aren't bad AT ALL. Looking at them, I wouldn't have any trouble pronouncing them. People probably have to be corrected on the spelling occasionally, but the fact that they aren't overly common names to begin with help (the traditional spellings of Kiana and Kirsten are still rare enough that plenty of people would double check the spelling on their own anyway ... it isn't like Immuhleigh who will ALWAYS be automatically misspelled.).

They are both pretty names, not "weird"at all. Yes, you choose alternative spellings, but the names themselves are fine! In the 70's I knew a number of Kierstens... was more common back then and also popular in Germany... nothing weird about it! Kiahna is a bit more different and "modern", but pretty and certainly not weird!

They are different but at least the spellings are logical. My pet peeve is when people put random capital letters or random apostrophes or spell names in such a way that you could never have guessed how they are pronounced with out a lengthy explanation.

They are beautiful names and you should not let what other people say bother you. It shouldn't matter if they are spelled weird or whatever, you should be proud and confident with the way YOU decided to spell their names on the birth certificate. Don't listen to negitive comments and enjoy your children's names!

I think your daughters will get into a large number of fights on the playground. Kids can be really cruel. An odd name is a good starting place for kids to set the pace for your daughters' entire school career.

Hopefully, they'll be ready for day one, and will stay ready for the next 12 or 13 years.

My name is Sasha, and I am expecting a girl the 18th this month. My husbands name is Finis. We both have names that are almost unheard of. We are naming our daughter Lana, and people have told us that name is strange. I believe that worst thing you can do is name your child a name you don't like. I remember in school we had an Ashley in almost every classroom. It is best to be original and creative, instead of being like everyone else.

Kiersten or Kirsten is not a weird name. However, there is no need for a "Y" in it. So that makes it awkward looking.
As for the other, I believe that's a totally made up name, so yeah, a little weird. No offense - you asked, I'm being honest, and I hope you don't think I'm being mean.
:)
