Yes, you can according to all the news reports. It's been a hotbed of discussion at both the hospital my Mom works at and my friend's hubby works at, because none of the doctors know anybody who will do that for completely non-medical/mental reasons. Must be more likely to happen on the coasts?
There are several reasons to request a c-section that would be maybe iffy, but certainly justifiable. Previous uterine surgery, fibroids, family history, pelvic problems, big baby, certain eye diseases, back pain, very narrow hips. None of these have to be serious, but they do have potentially higher risk for problems.
In the absense of success, be sure to get a doc that is happy to have you get an epidural right away with maximum pain relief. Some women report they don't feel a thing.

Honestly it depends on where you live and who your doctor is. Some doctors will do it, and other's will only do them if absolutely necessary, it is something I looked into when I found out I was pregnant, but none of the doctors in my area will do them unless absolutley needed :( ask around and see if there are any in your area. Everyone I have talked to that has had both types of delivery's, said they prefer the c-section over natural birth if they were in decent shape to start with (the better shape your in when you go in for the surgery, the shorter your recovery time is). And the scars are NOT HUGE, they're little itty bitty ones so low that only your husband or boyfriend will see it because it's in your pubic hair line. Anyway... good luck to you!

You can request one and they may give it to you. But honestly I don't know why you would want one. The recovery time is MUCH longer than with an vaginal birth. And if you get an epidural a vaginal birth is MUCH less painful from what I hear. I had a c-section and I can tell you it wasn't fun. You have to stay in the hospital for 4 to 5 days and after the your epidural or spinal wears off, it HURTS. I mean it was O.K if you have to have one, but given the choice I would have had a vaginal birth with an epidural.

Yes,
You can ask your doctor and see if he'll do it. He may not. You might have to search around for a doctor who will do a C-Section even if you don't really need it.
My sister did that. She didn't want to have natural labor. She wanted a C-Section because it's supposed to be easier. So she went and found a doctor who would do it for her. Once you have one c-section they tend to want to only do c-sections after that.
I have two kids and both were natural. The first one I had an epidural which was really really nice. With my second I waited to long to get the epidural and had to have her with no pain meds at all. It wasn't too bad. The worse part is when your fully dilated and ready to push.
So to answer your question, yes you can request it and hope your doctor will do it without having to.

No - it has to be medically necessary, and besides why would you want to? There is a much longer recovery with a c-section and more pain. Plus the scarring can cause scar tissue which can get in the way of the next delivery.

yes, but not all doctors will not do one unless needed. but think before you make that decision because a c-section would suck MUCH worse than natural. surethere is a lot of pain when you give birth but it ends after the baby is born. do you really want staples in your belly?

why would you want to do that? unless a medical reason most dr will not electively do that. it is a major operation with a MUCH longer recoup time and many more complications can arise. i was scared to death i would need one due to the fact i was having twins and the dr said NO, only if someone is in distress and we need them out fast. most women i have talked to and know prefer natural birth. just curious? why do you WANT one?

You can request anything you want but a doctor does not have to provide unnecessary medical procedures and surgery. They should also refer you for a psychiatric evaluation if you insist on surgery whose risks far outweigh the benefits.

You can, but why the heck would you want to put your body through MAJOR surgery if you don't have to. Plus you have that horrible looking scar the rest of your life. I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to.
