what i am wondering is if i can use something like a 5500 or 6000 amd dual core?????

No your motherboard is not compatible with dual core cpus. Your motherboad is a SocketA board and dual core cpus use either Socket939 or Socket AM2.

Your mobo is based on an obsolete format - Socket A or 462. You are already using the FASTEST processor in that format. The only option left for you is to overclock that processor. BUT performance gain would be small. Awesome performance could only come from an upgrade to current AM2 or LGA775 formats.
