I'm afraid I can't help with any suggestinos for good notebooks, but I can answer your processor question.

Currently the Intel Core 2 Duo performs a lot better than any (equivalent) AMD chips out there at the moment. A Google search on performance comparisons will prove it.

And believe me, that's quite hard for me to admit that as I used to be an AMD man ;) The Core 2 Duo has changed that though.

AMD: usually a more cost effective choice because the prices are so low but they are able to get really hot while running so if you are going to get one of these you can use the money you saved on a good cooling system, also they dont use as much energy as the Intel counterparts

Intel: much more expensive but these are like hummers, they have brute force but they will consume a lot of energy so if you want the faster processor i guess get the core 2 but the energy it consumes is like 30-50% more than and AMD depending on the model. Also im pretty sure that they slow down as they get hotter but then back in the old days AMD never got slower and burst into flames but that shouldnt be a problem anymore

ALso dont believe the google ones cause theyre really really biased some go for AMD all the way and some go for Intel all the way so just choose one or go to a bestbuy and ask an electronics guy

amd has a faster refresh rate. intel has more stability. amd is great for gaming because of the FSB speed. intel is great for vid/audio editing.
