The stripes on my Clown Loach turn from black to pale grey at times. Why is this?

That is totally normal and typical of clown loaches and is no cause for alarm at all. I have never seen a clown loach that doesn't do this constantly.

Other fishes amp up the stripes when getting aggressive. Loaches too?

Indicates the fishes' mood/stress level. Perfectly normal.

maybe it's stressed, my zebra danio do the same thing sometimes
