Can you lay a lcd tv/monitor down?

We just got a used one from someone and we are wondering if it is ok to just lay it down on the carpet. I know its a weird question but we just want to make sure.

You can if it is cooled down, but if it was just on, there is a chance it will damage the screen - you cant lay a plasma down cool or hot

yes u can. dlp's and plasmas are 2 types of tv's that u do not want to lay down. thoses types of tv's could get messed up big time. in dlps, or and rear projectin tv, the projector could move and not be straight and the picture could come out crooked.
