I have a blue shirt that has pink splotches and a tan shirt with light splotches, to name a couple.
1. Why would this happen if I did not use bleach, and I did wash only similar colors in one load?
2. How can I prevent this from happening again?
BTW I'm using Tide. Thanks for your help.

Let me add that I did wash these clothes in cold water, and I have not used bleach in my washer in probably 10 months. (I ran out of bleach and didn't see a need to buy more.)

I use the powder Tide, so I do make sure I put that in first and let it all dissolve and the tuv fill up before I put my clothes in.

If you use hot water that can sometimes happen. You should always use cold water with dark or deep colored clothes. Also, if you use bleach on the wash before the dark wash there maybe a touch of bleach somewhere in the machine. I always run the machine empty after I use bleach. They have products in your super market that can remove unwanted color from clothes when this happens. I just don't know the name. Also, I have found that you should not leave your dark washed clothes in the washing machine lying on top of each other. Take them out pronto after washing. Dry dark clothes on a low setting and don't over dry them as it can fade them.

Do you put your clothes in the washer and THEN add the Tide and THEN turn on the water???? If you do..........then don't do that.

Turn the water on, add the Tide, stir with your hand, then add your clothes.

Try that. If you are using powder formula, this is more likely to happen then liquid formula but it can happen with both.

maybe you used bleach before when you washed them before . Not really sure since this has never happened to me and I have been washing clothes longer than you have been alive most likely.
