It usually means that instead of listening to someone (like a parent) correct you or criticize something you said or did, you immediately respond with a negative comment straight back at them (instead of listening and accepting the fact that you did something wrong). That's why parents might say "Don't talk back to me!"

About half the time it means a person doesn't like the tone of voice of a person they are talking to, even if that person was being perfectly normal ("Don't you use that snobby polite voice when you talk back to me.")
The rest of the time it means that a person replies and the speaker using "talk back" thinks the person doesn't have the right to reply or should obey rather that discuss or argue.

"Talks" means that you are not actually an exclusive couple but you are getting to know each other better so that you can determine if the other person is what you are looking for in a companion. it is basically the first step before making a relationship official.

Usually when a parent or elder says something that is a directive and something you are supposed to just listen to and do whatever they say. When you say something back after getting a direct order or getting growled at is "talking back"

Generally when it's parents talking to children it's the children telling the adults what they don't want to hear and basically telling them to shut up. But in less words.

When you are not supposed to answer but listen and learn specially when respect is at stake. For instance, I tell my girls: go to sleep!! and one answers: why don;t you go to sleep too? See? that is is a disrespectful answer. She is not supposed to "talk back".
