54 x 0.85 = 45.9

Start with 1.00%:
If you're decreasing take that much off of the 1.00% (i.e. 15% off is 1.00 - 15 = 0.85)
If you're increasing then add that much on (so 15% increase is 1.15)

Then times that number by the number which is being increased/decreased - simple!

54 divided by 100 gives 1% which in this case is .54 to get 85% (100-15) you would do .54 x 85 which =45.9

15% is 15 ÷ 100. (15/100ths)
(15 ÷ 100) x 54 = 8.1
54 - 8.1 = 45.9

A quicker way is to say...100 - 15 = 85.
85/100 = 0.85
0.85 x 54 = 45.9

15% off for 54 would leave you with 45.90
i.e. => 54 - [54 x (15/100)]
=> 54 - [54 x 0.15]
=> 54 - [8.1]
=> 45.90
Got It !!!

The EASY way...

To get 10% move the point once to the left - 10% of 365 is 36.5 - to get 1% move it to the left again - 1% of 365 is 3.65

Now you have the tools to calculate the % of any given figure...

For example

54 minus 15% - well - 10% of 54 is 5.4 and 1% is .54

I hope I 've set you up for a lifetime of understanding how to work out percentages!

Hey there!

Use the formula for percent. P=S/T, where P is the percent, S is certain number of events in a set, and T is the total number of events in the set. Here's the answer.

P=S/T -->
15%=S/54 -->
0.15=S/54 -->
0.15(54)=S -->
S=8.1

Since the question said 15% off, we have to subtract S from T.

T-S -->
54-8.1 -->
45.9

So the answer is 45.9.

Hope it helps!

If it is 15% off, then you are keeping 85%, right? So you just multiply 54 by .85 to get your answer...

54 * .85 = 45.9
There is your answer :)
