the first answers is wrong.

x86 is the architecture of all windows pc processors. the only different ones are the old g2-g5 processors that used to be in macs and a few others. 64 bit is only for 64 bit processors ( c2d, amd 64), and even then if u install 64 bit, most programs only run in 32 bit windows. get 32 bit windows, it has the most compatibility.

my advice is not to upgrade to vista unless u know for sure that all the hardware in ur computer is supported in vista. there is nothing worse that installing vista and trying to find drivers for hardware that are not supported in vista. vista sucks big time anyway.

Do NOT upgrade to Vista if you are using Activesync on any Pocket PC or mobile device older than 2003. Vista does not work with Activesync and Vista mobile device center doesn't recognize older mobile operating systems. Result-pocket PC is now a piece of junk. Vista still has lots of bugs. I recommend you not upgrade unless there is some feature of Vista you can't live without.

most modern day computer are 32-bits. 64-bits is more for high gamers and servers. x86 is processor speed of intel way back. currently there are only 32 and 64 bits. my recommendation to you is 32 bits. supports more and easier to use for novice, intermitted.
