Yes a macbook can do tht but you would have to buy a program called bootcamp tht lets you run windows programs which would be a hassle tht sucks they don't let you use macbooks i have one and i absolutely love it.
here is the program link

A MacBook will fit the bill exactly if you run Windows in Parallels, VM Ware or boot camp.
If you are just a little flexible in your specs you can do everything without running Windows.
The Mac version of Office has Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. If you buy a $30 driver for ODBC you can query MS Access tables and create your own relational databases using Excel.
Encarta won't run on a Mac, but WorldBook has an excellent encyclopedia that does.
Even though there still isn't a virus or worm in the wild to detect (maybe some old Word macro virsues) for MacOS, Symantec and Intego make anti-virus products for MacOS.
You will be extremely pleased with any MacBook you select. Apple recently gave them all a speed boost.

Contrary to what the first guy said, you can customize your Macbook BUT unfortunately you can't get the graphics card upgraded if you want to use the Mac for games. It looks like you won't be using your new computer for that, so everything else should be good. Wait until Leopard is released (the next Mac OS) so you can run Windows Vista Business on a partition of your Mac's HD if you want. Here's what I recommend for the Mac:
- 2 GB RAM
- 160 GB HD
- Super Drive (DVD±RW/CD±RW; you won't regret it)
- Intego Security Barrier X4 Antispam Edition Dual Protection. That way you can secure your Mac OS X and Windows on your Macbook
- Mac OS X Leopard; The current Mac OS has a public beta of Boot Camp for Tiger (the current Mac OS), but it's for free trial purposes only.
Mac out of the question? No prob! Your tech specs seem to check out, but I would recommend having a Wifi card with Draft n on it. I hope that helps.
Good luck!

well, since most retail computer come with Vista Home Basic or Home Premium (some Toshibas come with Ultimate) you wont be finding nearly any XP computers nor Vista Business computers. I wouldn't recommend a macbook for school purposes, its probably more machine than you need. you may want to take a look at Acer, Compaq or HP (depending or your budget.) also, most computers don't come with a full anti-virus program, usually just a trial, and rarely have programs like Encarta.

Here's a very good special going on now at Tiger Direct for only $899.00

You might want to buy the MS Office Suite separately and install it yourself along with Encarta and your anti-virus and anti-spyware software.

DO you have a budget? That is an easy layout. Dell Dot Com, HP dot com. If you are looking for a deal, on the cheap go to the classifieds in the newspaper!

Macs can't do that. Your best bet would be to configure one on HP's or Dell's site.
