So long as the phrase is used by greedy individuals to accumulate land/animal wealth without any concern for ecology it will be a problem, and the bible can be used to back up their actions. But I don't think that it necessarily has to be interpreted in this way and it could instead mean that it is our responsibility to care for all animals and the land as well!

Man had dominion over the earth which causes his responsibility for taking care of it. He is to care for the earth and all creatures therein but he was to have full rein of everything but as the Bible taught he lost his birthright when he bit the apple doesn't matter who ate first, man or woman, it was bitten and satan got the rule. So if one believes that he has "dominion over the land and animals" then we are to preserve and care for the land and animals since we are to be in charge of them. Let the one with the most power (dominion, charge) be the greatest servant.

Yup Religion existance in the first place was to try explaining how the world was working, in order to increase survival rate of the followers, so all in all, the best religions have thrived over the eons and become what they are today. It is why that they mostly focus on human dominating the nature instead of preserving it, since most religions could not really understand or even try to explains natures mechanisms.
So all in all, christianity in its present form has adopted very little pagan beliefs (that were traditionally closer to nature than most other religions as they were related to the practice of agriculture mostly).
Druidism was the closest thing to nature that man has come up with. In Africa they are still some other cults as well as most equatorial tribes, but those are not large religions.
Buddism is considered the most green religion todays, even if it doesn`t really seek to know it (more respect than other things).

Not unless your understanding of "dominion" narrowly perceives it to mean "abuse", which, of course, as "imaginedesirecreates" and "Robert S" so clearly point out that "dominion" is more appropriately understood as stewardship, meaning, as "rc" so clearly states, "wouldn't it make sense to take care of that land". Or maybe the focus of your "question" isn't really to understand "dominion" and preservation of our planet as it is an attempt at a veiled attack on Christianity, Christians, and Christ. Hmmmm. God Bless you.

Not really. If I had dominion over something, I'd want to preserve it. For instance, I preserve my car, my home, and my pets.

No, the problem is how you understand that word "Dominion".
Some have interpreted that to mean we can do what we like.
A better understanding is the word "Stewardship".
It means that we are responsible for looking after out planet.
The sins of our fathers are coming home to roost today.
Many have selfishly taken whatever they wanted,
without regard for the remaining environment & others.

Have you ever actually read the Bible or are you just trying to pick a fight with Christians?

..and to the previous comment - Are you some kind of expert on all religions? You should also try reading a Bible and finding out the facts. The Bible is God's word and hasn't changed in eon's. Start from Genesis and see what really happenned.

No. Dominon is the power or right to govern and control. So if it is man's job to govern the land wouldn't it make sense to take care of that land?

No, it is not contrary, it means that we are in charge to take care of land and animals, sadly we are not doing it.

You posted this in the wrong section!! You should have placed it in religion and spirituality. In the world of science no one cares what the christian belief is!
