If a union votes to strike, and i disagree with the strike what legal right does the union have to force me not to go to work if I still want to. How can they fire me when i'm not an employee of the union?

The Union doesn't hire & fire, that's the company. If the company doesn't do a lock out and you cross a picket line, you are a scab.

Ask yourself, are you willing to side with the company over the workers? Because, in essence, that is what you are doing if you cross a picket line.

In most places, the Union represents non-members as well as their own. Your wages & benefits are higher because of the Union and you are protected from unjustified termination. By not being a member, you are getting a free ride. Show some appreciation!

Be aware that sometimes when strikes are over, the people who worked during the strike get fired. Not fair from your standpoint, but if the company needs the volume of union members more than it needs the few scabs (who are much more replaceable) they will acquiesce to the union.

The union has no right, but you have to understand that you are going to have problems working because usually the company will lock you out anyway, they wont let any represented worker work. Why would you cross the line? My personal opinion is that these unions who have worked hard to get what they have and trying to keeep what they have. if you are from Ca. you must understand that a liveable wage is not what these companies want to pay. Medical is so high and they want to take that away from people.

You cannot be fired, but the fellow workers in the union will not be very happy with you

The union cannot fire you, but they are required by law to represent you if your employer tries to fire you without good cause!

They can not fire you. However, your co-workers who do strike will treat you as an outcast. Probably call you a scab, etc.
