frankie is right, use benchmarking tools. If you want a quick speed test, try Super Pi 1M or 2M. Since you have a dual core, you could run 2 Super Pi threads simultaneously.

You could try overclocking too and aim for something close to X2 6000+ performance.

Hit Cntl Alt Del simultaneously and then click on Performance tab. There is your CPU usage. I don't think you want to have it at 100% - literally brings your computer to almost a stand still. I like mine around 50 percent.
